Nigerian musicians have, on various occasions, encountered dissatisfaction from show promoters and fans due to their non-appearance at scheduled paid events.
Whenever Nigerian artists fall short of appearing at paid events, they often attribute it to various factors like logistical challenges, inadequate security, or breaches on the part of the promoter.
However, these explanations seldom alleviate the financial loss for promoters or compensate for the disappointment experienced by the fans.
Here are Five(5) Nigerian music stars who have faced accusations of not appearing at scheduled paid events.
Wizkid
Ghanaian fans experienced disappointment when Nigerian Music megastar Wizkid failed to grace his headline concert in December 2022 at the 40,000-capacity Accra Stadium in Ghana.
While Wizkid initially confirmed his attendance through a tweet, he later cited security and production issues for his absence, assuring fans that a new date would be communicated.
Davido
In 2023, allegations surfaced against Davido, made by Amaju Pinnick, the organizer of the “Warri Again” event, accusing the multi-award-winning artist of failing to honor a paid appearance worth $100,000.
This disagreement sparked a social media exchange between Davido and the former NFF President, who went as far as threatening legal action against Davido, seeking 2.3 billion naira in damages.
Shallipopi
Shallipopi, a breakout sensation of 2023 with his infectious party-starting hits, left organizers and fans dismayed when he abruptly canceled his scheduled appearance at Pulse Nigeria’s December 2023 Pulse Fiesta concert.
Despite thousands of eager fans anticipating his performance, Shallipopi’s absence disappointed the event’s attendees.
Kizz Daniel
In 2022, Kizz Daniel made headlines after a show promoter reported him to the police for non-appearance at a concert in Tanzania.
The promoter alleged that Kizz Daniel refused to perform due to a lack of access to his jewelry, a claim vehemently denied by the Nigerian artist.
Kizz Daniel clarified that his luggage, containing his clothes, was undelivered by the airline.
Burna Boy
In a surprising turn of events in 2023, Burna Boy failed to appear at a concert in the Netherlands, abruptly canceling the event without providing prior reasons.
The Grammy winner later apologized to his disappointed fans on Instagram, expressing regret for the unforeseen circumstances.
The rescheduled show, set for June 23rd, 2023, offered interested fans complimentary transportation to the venue.
